Hey y’all, for the foreseeable future I will be writing monthly blog goals. I’m a little late since its already the 9th, but I will be publishing every first week of the month starting in January. I’m doing this because I am trying to hold myself accountable and I thought I could share with other bloggers. Plus, It’s so important to have goals otherwise you aimlessly walk through life. All throughout high school and college I had a planner, I wrote my assignments and my to-dos, and daily goals. And to be honest, if I don’t have daily, weekly, or monthly goals I pretty much fall apart. Have goals so you can have a target to shoot for.
Focus my energy on blogging:Â
I’ve been blogging for a year now, but only privately. Last month I released my blog to the “public, meaning my friends and family and slowly the masses. Ive been juggling my blog and Etsy because I love doing both. I truly do. I’m a crafter at heart, I love making all kinds of things… but I also love writing about things that I love… but I am being spread so thin and trying to dedicate time to both areas and it’s not working. You can only spread yourself so thin that you begin to neglect both. It’s time for focus my energy fully on one, rather than both.
Learning:
- Pinterest/Audience:
My number one priority this month and for the next few months will be Learning to navigate the Pinterest waters and their algorithms. I’ve been on Pinterest for years now. I go on Pinterest more than any other social media site, well besides my own blog. But now, rather than pinning the things that I like, I am going to be focusing on strategically using Pinterest to gain a wider audience. The audience in my niche.
Although it’s fun to share my blog posts with family and friends, my niche is not for everyone. I’m not going to be sharing my “how to create a DIY zipper pouch” to my guy friend who is into bodybuilding. That doesn’t make sense. It’s like selling a snow suit to someone in Hawaii. I need to target my niche: mothers, crafters, and other bloggers. And The best way to find my target audience is through Pinterest.
Doing:
- Blog posts:Â
I need to be writing publishing at least one blog post a week now that I am lessening my load on etsy. I have all these ideas buzzing around my head for new blog posts ( I’m currently writing 4 blog posts) but I just need to focus, sit down, and finish one dang post. Get it together, Ledy!
Affiliate disclosures: I’ve been going back and forth about creating a separate “affiliate disclosure” page because I don’t really have too many affiliate links and the links that I do have, I have them wigetted (is that a word?) to my sidebar so they are on every page. But I think it’s time to just take the plunge and go for it and make the darn page. It’s not hard or anything, but I don’t want to do the little menial tasks anymore, I want to continue to work on content creation, wahh!
- Newsletter:
::Sigh:: this is another area I’m not really looking forward to. Not because I don’t want to have a newsletter (I really do! I want to connect with my readers on a more personal level), but the thought of all the work I’m going to have to put into: Signing up, learning the ropes of this new site, creating the newsletter, creating personal/interesting content for my subscribers. It’s quite daunting! And I’m afraid that I won’t have enough stuff to write about! Yikes.
So, I’m taking it slow this month, I will be logging into my site provider (Ive only done it once so far) and thinking about possible newsletter topics. I won’t have a newsletter out until very minimum, the end of January. I really want to make sure Ive got this right and that I can provide consistent newsletters and good content for my subscribers.
- 2017 goal writing:
And last but certainly not least, is my 2017 goals for my blog. This probably takes priority over my Pinterest learning curve. This will be the foundation that I build my blog on for the next 12 months. I will be making a spread sheet for every month and writing goals, possible blog post content ideas.
And those are my December goals that I am currently focusing on, what are your blogging goals this month?
It certainly is a lot of work running a blog but you seem to be on the right track! One thing at time though otherwise you’ll be overwhelmed! Good luck:)
Good luck with your goals!
I decided to not bother with a newsletter. Honestly, I rarely read the ones I get and I didn’t want to waste my time doing something and having others not read too.
your december blog goals are good, i hardly create blog goals for my self but i will look into it with a leaf from yours.
I love To Do lists and goals. They are so inspiring for some reason; so I think that this will definitely be great for you, and I look forward to seeing your progress. 🙂 Best of luck!
I need to start doing this next year! This is such a great way to keep yourself accountable
I had a really good retreat a couple weeks ago so that has me back on track. I am super clear about the first 90 days of the year and then things get a little blurry after that. 🙂
I hope you smash all of your goals, girl!
Your goals for this month are really good. I have been really focusing on my page views and Pinterest. I haven’t created a newsletter yet. This will be something I will work on in a couple of months. I hope you post your results on how your goals are going.
Ooh I like your blogging goals, It nice you are focusing on it and hopefully you will see some results. xx
These are all great goals. It’s great you are organized enough to be reflecting on 2016 and planning for 2017. Good luck!
I am also looking to focus on and learn Pinterest more since I’ve heard it’s a huge tool for traffic. Know you are not alone!!
great posts and goals
I think I follow your example and set up some blog goals in January. There are so many things i need to do but never seem to make time for it.
